Grantham Badminton Club’s mixed second team took on league leaders at home in Newark League Division Two.

Cross O’ Cliff were already in for definite promotion, but Grantham’s convincing 8-1 victory on the night made them runners-up.

They now have chance to challenge Lincoln St Andrews to a play-off for a possible position to Division One next season.

Captain Jaz Gilbert played with Chung Chan, Adrian Ackroyd with Laura Graves, and Bex Davison with Ben Johnson.

Jaz Gilbert picked up Grantham ladies’ level doubles tournament cup the previous night, playing with Susie Steeples to defeat Sophie Turley and Kerry Durham in the final.

The men’s doubles cup was won by Nick Gill with Chung Chan, after beating Chris Graves and Declan Hill in the final.

In Melton League Division One, Grantham men entertained Mars at home. In a highly competitive match, captain Rod Tyler with Jack Railton won two rubbers from three, and Rob Scarborough with Carl Jennings also added two. Dave Chambers with Andrew Watson almost claimed two more, but in the event won one rubber from their three to push the Grantham tally up to five rubbers compared to four for Mars for a good Grantham win in the concluding match of the season.
