BADMINTON: Grantham men’s third string notch up impressive victory on the road

Grantham Badminton Club men’s third team appeared notched up an impressive 7-2 win away to Woodborough in Newark League Division Three.

Juniors Andrew Watson with Josh Gould took all three of their rubbers, as did Rob Scarborough with Matt Whittle. Mike Woodhouse with 13-year-old Daniel Watson also picked up a useful rubber.

In Melton League Division One Mixed, new entrants Grantham were away to established Bottesford, who duly showed their experience at this level with a 9-0 whitewash. Rob Scarborough with Katja Perry took two of their three rubbers to third end deciders, without success. Rob Howbrook with Sarah Bransby and Matt Whittle with Sonal Modi also failed to win any rubbers.

Newark Division One featured an away clash between Grantham and Lincoln Albion firsts. Playing with plastic shuttlecocks, Albion waltzed to a comfortable 6-3 win against a Grantham team fielding three reserves. Reserve Toby Mills with Kerry Durham won an impressive two rubbers, Chris Parrot with Jaz Gilbert won one. Reserves Rob Scarborough with Kat Perry failed to claim any.
