Grantham Badminton Club’s mixed third team visited Uppingham’s state-of-the-art six court hall for a tight first match in Melton League Division One.

Established pair Rob Howbrook with Sandra Jennings claimed two rubbers, new pairings Rob Scarborough with Lesley Jackson, and Declan Hill with Zoe Foote, each claimed a rubber and narrowly missed winning two more in exciting third end showdowns, with the final score 5-4 to Uppingham.

The men’s first team entertained Lincoln Albion at home in Newark League Division One at Priory Academy sports hall and maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a clear 7-2 win. Ben Johnson with Jan Bailey won all three of their rubbers, captain Nick Gill played with reserve Martin Chambers and won two, as did Chung Chan playing with Andrew Leonard.
