The new year brought mixed results for Grantham Badminton Club’s teams.
The top men’s team lost 7-2 at home to Westside in Newark League Division One. Nick Gill played with Joe Attewell, and Chung Chan with Martin Peat, but Jan Bailey with Ben Johnson had the only success in winning two rubbers.
A severely depleted men’s first squad lost 5-4 at Lincoln Albion despite young reserve Andrew Watson performing brilliantly with Nick Gill, picking up two rubbers and almost a third. Chung Chan with Martin Peat also won two, however Dave Coleman with Martin Chambers narrowly went down 22-20, 21-19 in the decider.
Jaz Gilbert led the mixed seconds to a comfortable 7-2 win away to Lincoln Albion 2nd in Division Two – despite the plastic shuttles. Jaz with Ben Johnson won all their rubbers whilst Bex Davison with Martin Peat and Kerry Durham with Adrian Ackroyd collected two each.
In Division One, Grantham’s first mixed team lost at home to Cross O’Cliff. Kerry Durham with Nick Gill won one rubber, as did Adrian Ackroyd with Susie Steeples. Chung Chan partnered Jaz Gilbert.
Grantham ladies’ first team took on Westside at home in Division One, and were defeated 6-3. Kerry Durham with Bex Davison won two rubbers, Jaz and Susie Steeples added a third, while Laura Graves played with reserve Zoe Foote.
In Melton League Division One, Grantham mixed thirds lost 6-3 to Belvoir at home. Sandra Jennings with Dave Frobisher picked up two rubbers and Rob Scarborough with Lesley Jackson won one and narrowly lost another in the third end decider Declan Hill partnered Zoe Foote.
