GRANTHAM Badminton Club has 10 teams this season, involved in more than 100 fixtures in the Newark and Melton district leagues.

First to play were Grantham mixed firsts at Lincoln St Andrews away with the new team comprising Susies Steeples with Ben Johnson, who won all three of their rubbers, Kerry Durham with Jan Bailey also won all three, and new club member Chris Parrot partnered Jaz Gilbert to win two rubbers out of three, in a resounding 8-1 victory.

Grantham 2nd men also beat St Andrews away. Captain John Ashley with Adrian Ackroyd took all three rubbers, Josh King with Rob Young won two, and Mike Woodhouse with Toby Mills clinched a single rubber to complete the 6-3 win.

In a further away fixture at Bottesford, Grantham 2nd fielded a largely reserve team and still managed a 6-3 win. Adrian Ackroyd with Declan Hill and Paul Izod with Rob Howbrook won all their rubbers, while Dave Chambers with Mike Woodhouse narrowly missed on claiming any of theirs.

At home, the mixed seconds beat Cross O’ Cliff 6-3. Reserves Jo Desorghes with Rob Scarborough failed to win a rubber, despite taking two pairings to best of three games, while young captain Laura Graves with Jon Ashley, and Nick Gill with Sophie Turley, won all theirs.
