Grantham Badminton Club’s mixed second team entertained Crossed Rackets 2nd in Newark Division Two.

In a lengthy match, captain Jaz Gilbert with Chung Chan led the way to a 7-2 Grantham win by claiming all their rubbers. Laura Graves with Adrian Ackroyd and Bex Davison with Martin Peat won two rubbers from three each, and almost claimed a full house when their third rubbers went to three ends.

The men’s second team played away to Westside in Newark League Division One. Despite losing 9-0, some good games were had by all, and particularly impressive was young Andrew Watson who took one rubber to three games.

Captain Martin Chambers played with Dave Frobisher and also forced a three-ender, as did Dave Coleman with Adrian Ackroyd. Andrew Watson partnered Martin Peat.

The men’s fourth team travelled to Southwell to try and improve on their previous home defeat by Woodborough in Newark League Division Three.

However, each of Grantham’s pairings were restricted to winning a single rubber from three, despite some other close game scorelines. Captain Ian Witham played with reserve Chris Graves, Mike Woodhouse with reserve Rob Scarborough and Dean Patel with Daniel Watson. The final score was 6-3 to Woodborough.
