BADMINTON: Thirteen-year-old Sparks shines for Grantham club

Grantham Badminton Club travelled to Melton to take on Belvoir in the Melton League Mixed Division One.

In a tight match, Zoe Foote with Andrew Watson won two rubbers, Katja Perry and Chris Graves won one, and Holly Sparks with Rob Scarborough claimed her first mixed rubber in the senior leagues at the age of 13. The final score was 5-4 to Belvoir.

Another junior pair, William Saddler and Ryan Curtis, also got into winning ways in Division Three of the Newark Men’s League.

l Despite losing their first game against their Lincoln Albion 2nd pair, the youngsters came back to win that rubber and went on to claim all three rubbers in a 9-0 drubbing of the opposition. Rob Scarborough and Daniel Watson, and Jon Ashley with Declan Hill also won all three rubbers for Grantham men’s third team.

l Grantham ladies’ first team clashed with their own second string for the second time this season in Division One of the Newark League.

Despite some close game scores, the first time ran out convincing winners by six rubbers to nil.

The first team were Jaz Gilbert, Bex Davison, Kerry Durham and Kat Perry, while the seconds comprised Sandra Jennings, Maria Hart, Holly Sparks and Zoe Foote.
