Grantham Badminton Club enjoyed three wins from three matches this week.

The men’s second team in Newark League Division Two struggled to field the usual team, but managed a valuable away win to Westside 2nd.

Captain Jon Ashley with Josh Gould won two rubbers as did Rob Scarborough with Chris Parrot, and Rob Howbrook with Joe Attewell. The scoreline was much closer than it looked with seven of the nine rubbers going to three, and the 7pm stretched out to a 10.30pm late finish.

At home, the men’s first team swept to a 9-0 whitewash in Division One. Strong performances came from Martin Chambers with Jon Ashley, who won all three rubbers, as did captain Nick Gill with Chris Parrot and Joe Attewell with Jan Bailey.

In the Melton League, the mixed firsts encountered a strong Bottesford at home and lost 6-3 despite a good performance. Rob Howbrook with Sandra Jennings picked up a rubber and Rob Scarborough with Sophie Turley claimed two from three. Matt Whittle with Sonal Modi added nothing further to the scoreline.
