Grantham Amateur Boxing Club is holding its annual boxing tournament at The Meres this Saturday (March 28).

The club promises a great selection of bouts, with five Grantham boxers going in the ring.

Nathan Wallace will box Akim Douglas (Bad Boyz Boxing Club) for the vacant middleweight Notts & Lincs Challenge belt.

Meanwhile, the equivalent welterweight belt will be contested by Grantham’s Terry Bennett who will be hoping to topple current title holder Jordan Needham of Scunthorpe Centurions ABC.

And making his debut will be Curtis Page who takes on R. Salaam (Burslam ABC) in the lightweight division.

There will also be skills bouts for youngsters, with Grantham’s Kristupas Gudonis tackling Kian Dixon (Mansfield Bulls ABC), and the club’s lightest ever boxer at 27kg – 10-year-old Callum Short – will face Jake Newman of Arnold School of Boxing.

Grantham ABC head coach Dean Fardell said the club were really looking forward to the tournament: “We have three Notts and Lincs challenge belts and an England Boxing Elite Championship Final on the show.

“We are looking forward to Curtis Page making his debut; he is looking really good at the minute and has a promising future in amateur boxing.

“This is also the first time we have had two Grantham boxers competing for two belts on our show. We know we have tough challenges with both opponents, and both boxers and Grantham ABC coaches have been working really hard in preparation for the contests.

“I have been taking Nathan to spar at the Carl Greaves Professional Boxing Academy in Newark, and he is on top form at the minute.

“Terry Bennett will be challenging for the Notts and Lincs welterweight belt. He has a tough opponent to face in Jordan Needham.

“This is Terry’s first bout back in nearly a year after badly breaking his hand at work.”

Doors open from 7pm and admission on the door is £10 for adults and £5 for children under 14.

Seating six, ringside tables including a buffet are priced at £120.

There will be a licensed bar and a raffle. The event is sponsored by Forceshift Skip Hire of Boston.
