Belton Wanderers Golfing Society held its inaugural annual awards dinner at Belton Woods last month.
Now 24 members strong, the society was formed in 2010 by a group of friends in their late forties keen to learn a new sport, having retired from local competitive cricket and rugby.
The group steadily grew and now enjoys regular golf on Saturdays, an annual tour and a Ryder Cup-style match against another society. Its Christmas golfing day was held on Friday and the society’s first international tour takes place in Morocco next month.
Club secretary Glenn Lawrence said: “It is fair to say that we are taking ourselves evermore seriously.”
