It was a case of new year, new handicap, for the winner of Sudbrook Moor’s first qualifying competition of 2015.
Winner Paul Brough was the only player from a field of 48 who played below CSS and notched up 25 points in the Sword of Achievement Order of Merit.
Playing on a really challenging day, with high winds testing both the stance and the swing, Paul moved from 19.5 to 18.9 handicap.
Another excellent score of 36 points was returned by ladies’ winner Amanda Roberts, off a handicap of 18.3.
The twos pot was shared between Jon Machin (2), Simon Green, Nigel Corby, Graham Ritchie and Alfie Kent.
In Category 1-3, the prizes were shared between Darren Nicholson 35, Steve Davis 34, Andy Newman 34 and Pete Armstrong 33. Newcomer Onie Ison triumphed in Category 4 with 34 points, ahead of Barry Pogson 33 and senior Joe Green 31.
Stoke Rochford played a teams of three stableford, with the best single score to count on the first six holes, best two from three on the middle six, and all three to count on the last six.
Clear winners with 79 points were Brian Ayto, Alan Dolby and Roger Smith. Runners-up with 76 Dave Waling, Don Werner and John Batty. Third with 74 points on countback were Roy Rowe and Dave Hudson along with their sleeping partner David Hamilton.
Overall lead in the Winter Warmers is still in the hands of Brian White with 33 points. Last year’s champion Alan Dolby lies perhaps ominously in second with 25 points, and Don Clements is third with 24.
