GOLF: Hamers roll back the years at Belton Park

A husband and wife team rolled back the years to win a cup they first bagged eight years ago.

The Family Cup was played for over the fairways of Belton Park on Sunday and winners of this closely fought competition were Vince and Julie Hamer.

The Hamers just pipped gents’ captain Rob Bartlett and his wife Ann into second place on countback, with former captains Terry and Izzie Guest just a point further back.

Results: 1 Vince and Julie Hamer 39pt ocb, 2 Rob and Ann Bartlett 39, 3 Terry and Izzie Guest 38.


l A junior club member came out on top in a full gents’ competition when Ollie Mitchell claimed the the July Salver on Saturday.

Results: 1 Ollie Mitchell 88-22=66, 2 Mike Bridges 82-15=67, 3 Chris Mousley 78-11=67; lowest gross – Aidan Greenberry 69.

l Last Thursday’s Midweek Stableford was won by Richard Brighton with 38 points, on countback from Andrew Cotton.


With the recent fine weather and the course in fine fettle, the ladies of Belton Park looked to make the most of the fine scoring conditions in the Sybil Brownlow Trophy.

Results: 1 Sue Hall 92-28-64, 2 Jacqui Barson 88-23- 65, 3 Anna Clark 75-9-66.


Belton Park seniors attempted to reverse the away defeat at Lincoln earlier in the season, but unfortunately for them the visitors proved to be too strong and completed the double with a narrow victory.

Colin Musson emerged victorious in a closely fought Belton Woods seniors’ Marshalls July Monthly competition, triumphing from a field of 34 players with a net score 69 from runner-up Danny Pang.

Sudbrook Moor Ladies’ Club Championship has been contested and the Mary Hall Trophy for the best gross scorecard went to Judith Hutton.

She finished three shots ahead of runner-up Claire Lowes, with Caroline Davis in third.

Judith got fired up with an eagle two on the par four fifth and went on to win the twos sweep, as well as the Leglines Best Net Trophy.

l The ladies’ Tuesday roll-up stableford was won by Trinette Speck with 34 points, from Amanda Edwards on 31.

l The club midweek qualifier saw Andy Newman win in the gents’ section with three under CSS, and Fiona Hutton triumphed in the ladies’ with two over CSS.

Runners-up to Andy were Michael Green in Category 1-3 and Chris Wilmot in Category 4. Chris and Phil Hall shared the twos pot.
