GOLF: Hamston triumphs in Stoke Rochford Bagshaw Bowl

A total of 51 Stoke Rochford seniors braved the hot conditions to contest the annual Bagshaw Bowl competition, played in memory of former member and Melton Mowbray businessman Dick Bagshaw.

Winner of the individual stableford was Dave Hamston with an excellent 40 points. Runner-up with 36 points was Terry Haggerty, on countback from John Martindale and Trevor Harvey.

The tournament raised £500 for the Prostate Cancer UK charity, making a total of £4,675 in the eight years the event has been held.

George Forbes held his annual Captain’s Day event on the Lakes Course with 47 Seniors and Belton Woods hotel manager participating.

It was combined with the July Monthly Stableford followed by a meal and presentation afterwards.

Vice-captain Pat Stanford emerged victorious, winning both the Captain’s Cup and the Stableford trophy with 37 points. Tony Slipper on countback from Colin Musson gave Pat a run for his money with final scores of 36 points.

Sudbrook Moor Scratch League captain Bruce Macfarlane led his team of six pairs to another victory at the weekend.

The 5-1 home win against Kirton Holme, Boston, ensured the team stayed top of the league.

l Frank Brumpton followed up his Senior Trophy win with another top spot, adding maximum points to the Order of Merit Senior Golfer of the Year Award.

Runner-up was John Costall and best of Division Four was David Leslie.

In a recent stableford roll-up, Joe Green played his best round to return 45 points. There were also great scores from Andy Milner 44, Steve Squires 44, Dennis Brownlee 40, Bob Watson 39, Bryan Greenslade 39 and Melvin Clarricoats 39.

l The format for this month’s fun series Rainbow Scheme was a team of four Am/Am stableford with one, two or three scores counting over the 18 holes.

The top team comprised Dennis Green, Harry Peel, Kevin Turner and Judith Hutton who carded 87 points. Second place went to Michael Coupland, Yvonne Geach, Mick Lincoln and senior captain Colin Henfrey with 81 points.
