Belton Woods PGA teaching professional Iain Fulton has been selected by the Golf Foundation as one of 10 regional HSBC Golf Roots coaches.

The foundation identified Iain as as expert junior specialised coach and he is the only coach within Lincolnshire to receive this recognition.

They recognised his ability to engage and deliver golf to young people through the HSBC Golf Roots programme, of which Belton Woods is actively involved.

The club and Iain engage with the community through work with schools, schools sport partnerships, young people’s organisations and local authorities.

The Golf Roots programme provides youngsters with an introduction to golf and a club or facility and gives them the opportunity to progress through the national learning programme – the Junior Golf Passport.

Belton Woods has also been selected to trial the ‘Box of Tricks’ Junior Retention Programme as one of five regional pilot clubs, and 40 nationally.

Working with the Golf Foundation, the club will be looking at what is needed to reverse recent trends of declining golf participation and membership, in an effort to see growth in the junior section.

l Belton Woods is holding a Family Golf Open Day, supported by HSBC ‘Open Hour’, on Sunday, July 19, from 10am.
