Only 18 Stoke seniors turned out for last week’s Winter Warmer in the most atrocious conditions.

Torrential rain, puddled greens and a cold wind made play very testing for those playing a better ball stableford off ⅞ handicap.

Winners with 38 points were Brian Ayto and Keith Dugmore. Three pairs returned 37 points, second place on countback going to Brian White and Mick Rance, and third were Peter Gill and Keith Eddy.

Brian White is overall leader with 14 points, Keith Dugmore has 13, Brian Ayto 11 and four others have 10 points. Sixty-eight seniors have competed so far.

The main club came together for a fun Am-Am at the weekend.

Scoring an excellent 92 stableford points, captain Yvonne Geach team comprised Mike Koranski, Gary Benbow and Phil Davy. One point adrift were Steve Davis, Joseph Ablewhite and Andy Newman. On 89 points was Ian Reah’s team of newcomers, Keith Bedford and Aiden Hotchin.

Simon Green almost aced the par three 12th to claim the gents nearest the’ pin prize, and Caroline Davis won the ladies’. High handicap juniors were Joseph Ablewhite and Jared Hackney.

Just out of the team prizes, both on 88 points, were Phil Hall, Kevin Turner and Andy Casswell, and Simon Green, Bob Watson and Kev Jones.

An 87 point card was returned by Caroline Davis, Dennis Green, Jared Hackney and Clive Breedon.
