GOLF: Stoke Rochford seniors complete ‘double’ double over rivals

With home wins last Monday and Wednesday, Stoke Rochford completed two winning doubles, having already won away from home against both of their opponents.

Mick Rance and Phil White lost 1 down, Chris Woof and Mike Graves won 6&4, Ernie Armstrong and Charles Scott won 6&4, Greg Ewart and Graham Manton won 2&1, John Smeeton and Ken Taylor won 3&2, Eddie Plant and Ray Elsome won 3&1, Mike Nixon and Phil Hewes won 4&2, Charles Donnison and Keith Eddy won 6&5.

Mick Rance and Malcolm Edwards won 2&1, Keith Dugmore and Dave Hudson won 2 up, Greg Ewart and Ray Beal halved, Phil Varley and David Hamilton lost 5&4, Dave Hamston and Ray Elsome lost 3&2, Alan Jessop and Cliff Mills won 2&1, Mike Dickinson and Jim Price lost 4&3, Mike Graves and Duncan Bennett won 1 up.


Sudbrook Moor seniors’ monthly Texas Scramble was won by Dave Guy, Dennis Green and John Ronan with a fine medal score of 4.2 under SSS.

Less than a shot behind were Ken Jameson, Shirley Lane-Gillespy and Jim Northway, with Graham Buxton, Tony Sealey and Bernard Pratt finishing third. All temas returned cards under SSS.

l Barry Kay won his second senior roll-up in successive weeks with a card of 42 points. Second on countback was Ken Wingad and close behind in Categories 1-3 was Graham Mackinder with 41. John Morley won Category 4 with 41, from Colin Henfrey, Paddy Doherty and Joe Green (all on 39).

l First prize in the seniors’ qualifying stableford went to Frank Brumpton who carded 40 points, with Bob Watson runner-up on 38. Best of Category 4 was first time Thursday player Paul Whittle (38). Just out of the frame were Mike McHugh, Mick Massingham, Ken Wingad and Andy Milner.

Frank Brumpton won the twos sweep in its entirety after a birdie on the seventh.



Winner of the MB Jackson Trophy was Chris Haynes with a score of 70-1=69.

John Kirkup was runner-up with 74-4=70.


The Monthly Stableford was won by Laurence Haselhurst with 42 points, three ahead of second placed Fred Williams. Third went to Peter Rollings on 38 points.
