GOLF: Stoke Rochford seniors enjoy good day

Fifty-four Stoke Rochford seniors turned up for last week’s Winter Warmer on an unbelievably good February day, with bright sunshine and blue skies.

Playing a pairs better ball versus par competition, winners with an outstanding plus nine were Keith Dugmore and Nev Marris and, in achieving this total, did not lose one hole to the course.

Runners-up with plus eight were Brian Keightley and Roger Smith, who won 10 but lost two, and third with plus seven were Tim Haward and Phil White who won nine holes and lost one.

Overall leader is Brian White with 44 points, from Phil White (41) and Alan Dolby who has 34.


A two under SSS won Sudbrook Moor’s February senior drawn Texas Scramble medal for captain John Costall’s team who also comprised Dennis Green and Bryan Heydinger.

Senior organiser of the event Graham Mackinder returned the second best scorecard with Joe Green and John Morley, 2.9 shots behind. In third place were Pete Farmer, Colin Henfrey and Ray Pestell.

l Jenny Hilton returned an exceptional score of 23 points in the Tuesday ladies’ nine-hole stableford and received a handicap cut from 27 to 25.

The follow-up event was won by Cath Green on 15 points, with Sue Chambers one point adrift. Sue also received a runner-up prize with 17 points in the next event.

Andrea Marks returned a 17 point card, with Ann Magri two points adrift, while Amanda Roberts won the 18-hole stableford, with Norma Shelley second and Anne Parker third.
