Three Grantham Swimming Club members travelled to Ponds Forge, Sheffield, to compete in this year’s ASA National Championships.

Leah Roughan became Grantham’s most successful swimmer ever with some fantastic swims at the Age Group Nationals. In both 100m and 200m breaststroke events, Leah qualified for the final and finished in the silver medal position. She smashed the Lincolnshire county records in both cases and in doing so, became the first national medallist in Grantham Swimming Club’s history.

William Hawkes, who was swimming at this level for the first time, also swam the 100 breaststroke. He narrowly missed qualifying for the final, finishing 13th, but still set a new Lincolnshire county record for a 12-year-old boy.

Hayley Milne qualified for the ASA Youth National Championships and excelled in some outstanding races. Hayley, who has cerebral palsy, swam 50m freestyle and 100 breaststroke, qualifying for the final in both events and smashing her previous best times.

Grantham Swimming Club head coach Maciej Rakowski said: “It has been a fantastic season for Grantham Swimming Club with some great successes and I am very much looking forward to see what will happen next season.”
