Sixteen Grantham swimmers travelled to Ponds Forge in Sheffield to compete at the Retford Open last week and came home with 22 medals between them.

Sharon Lock, one of Grantham Swim Club’s Masters swimmers, showed her strength and experience by finishing first in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke, dominating her races. On the same stroke, Maddie Barnes took silver in the 50m and bronze in the 100m with great personal best swims.

Ella Coleman swam fantastically in the 50m breaststroke to claim a four seconds personal best and the bronze medal.

In the freestyle events, Cameron Chow managed to win a silver medal in the 100m and bettered this with gold in the 200m. In the girls’ 50m freestyle, Francesca Browne and Ella Coleman improved nicely with both winning bronze.

Luke Marriott swam a great race in the 100m butterfly, winning a silver medal and clocking an impressive seven seconds improvement. Alisha Tyers also swam fantastically, finishing third with a five seconds PB.

In the 100m individual medley, Jacob Allen showed his strength and came first in his age group. Harry Fowler also swam very well with over two seconds improvement to finish strongly in third place

Grantham’s swimmers showed no signs of fatigue in the final event, the 200m IM. Isobel Schofield won the gold medal, and Cameron Chow claimed silver with a very respectable four seconds PB.

Molly Fowler, Eleanor Lythgoe, Annabelle Marriot, Lily Chow, Alice-May Marriot, Katie Hitchcock and Steven Verheul all swam well, improving their times in one or more events.
