Five Grantham schools competed in the East Midlands Schools Gymnastics Championships at Stamford last Saturday.
King’s School impressed to successfully win both the under-14 and under-19 regional team titles, performing consistent routines on both the floor and vault. They will now represent the East Midlands at the national finals in May.
Priory Ruskin Academy placed second behind King’s in the younger age group.
St Mary’s and Cliffedale both competed in the under-11 age group in the mixed and girls’ events respectively. Both had tough competition from Stamford Junior School, but all performed well to claim well-deserved runners-up spots.
KGGS performed in the under-14 and under-19 team events and finished third in the younger age category, and fourth and fifth respectively with their A and B teams in the senior category. Priory Ruskin took third place in the under-19 mixed event.
Individually, King’s School took the top positions in both the under-14 and under-19 age groups. Hal Dexter was crowned champion in the juniors with Austin Webb finishing equal second.
Ryan Poole was senior champion, with Daniel Watson runner-up and Tom Wharmby third.
