Cliffedale Chandlers Table Tennis Club is preparing for the upcoming National Junior and Cadet League season with an intense training session next Sunday (October 11) at their home venue of the Table Tennis Centre at The Meres leisure centre.
The session will start at 10am and run until 4pm. With help from Grantham College Table Tennis Academy, who are providing coaches and knocking partners, it is sure to be a worthwhile exercise and one from which the Cadet and Junior players should benefit.
But that is not the only thing that Cliffedale Chandlers are holding on this date; there will be an opportunity for the local community to come along and have a go at one of the fastest sports in the world and to see what exactly Cliffedale Chandlers is about.
Club press officer Karl Robinson said: “The club ethos of ‘Table Tennis for All’ is what the open day is all about; it’s about letting people have a go at something new, no matter what their age or ability.”
“Table tennis, even if just played for fun, is a good way of keeping fit and also meeting new people, it keeps the mind sharp and the body active.
“Holding the open day on the same day as the NJL / NCL training also gives people the opportunity to see local young athletes in action and a chance to ask them and the coaches any questions.”
Cliffedale Chandlers hold sessions three times a week at the leisure centre: Tuesday 7-9pm is a structured training session, Friday 7-9pm is Funtime Friday and is open to all ages and abilities. The club’s second structured session of the week is held on Super Saturday and split into two sessions – 12-2pm is for beginners and improvers, and 2-4pm is for intermediate and above players.
Two hour sessions cost £4.
The club’s open day runs from 11am till 4pm. Light refreshments will be available.
