Grantham swimmers excelled during the first weekend of Age Group Midlands at Coventry, breaking four Lincolnshire county records and winning five medals.
William Hawkes achieved the fastest time ever in Grantham Swimming Club’s history for the 200m individual medley, winning silver in the final. The time puts Will up to 15th in the British rankings for boys aged 14. William, from Croxton Kerrial, also made club history in the 400m IM, becoming the fastest ever swimmer by five seconds and breaking a county record.
The Belvoir High School student dominated in his breaststroke races too – winning gold in 50m, 100m and 200m – a new county record.
In the 50m butterfly, Eleanor Lythgoe, Abigail Farkas and Abbie Phillips all clocked personal best times, with the first two progressing to the final. Eleanor bettered her club record and Abigail finished fourth in the final with a new county record and the second fastest time ever for the club.
The KGGS pupil, from Ropsley, is now 30th fastest in the British rankings for 13-year-old girls.
Eleanor Lythgoe, 14, kept pace with the fastest girl in Britain during the 200m butterfly final, winning silver and achieving a solid personal best time and 12th place in the British rankings.
In the backstroke races, Imogen Raistrick bettered her previous long course time in the 200m by two seconds and broke a club record, as well as bettering her old club record with a PB in the 100m.
Molly Colbert also swam a PB in the 100m backstroke before excelling in the 50m freestyle.
The 14-year-old KGGS student just missed out on a bronze medal in the final with the fastest time ever achieved in the club.
Grantham swimmers are back at Coventry next weekend for the final part of the championships.
