FORMER KGGS pupil Shona McCallin won a bronze medal after she helped England to third place at the European Under-21 Hockey Championships in Den Bosch, Holland, last week.

Shona, of Dry Doddington, scored the decisive goal to secure a semi-final place for her England side.

She scored the golden goal in the final five seconds of extra-time against Germany after the match had ended level at 2-2 after full time.

Twenty-year-old Shona then scored the only English goal in the semi-final as England lost 4-1 to hosts Holland.

By finishing third, England qualified for the Under-21 Hockey World Cup which will be held in Vancouver, Canada, next July.

Midfielder Shona has been playing in Holland for MOP Hockey Club for past two years and her aim is to make the senior squad for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
