A former KGGS student has made her senior international debut for the Great Britain women’s hockey team.
Twenty-one-year-old Shona McCallin claimed her first cap in a three-match series against Germany at Mannheim, Frankfurt. GB won the first match 3-1 but lost the other two by the same score.
She said it had been a “real honour” to earn her first three caps: “It has given me a taste of what top international hockey is like and has spurred me on to want more.”
Shona, of Dry Doddington, is currently studying in Holland where she plays for a team called MOP in the Dutch Premier League.
She is planning to return to England after Christmas to spend more time training with the GB squad in preparation for next year’s World Cup and, ultimately, the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
