Former KGGS pupil Shona McCallin has been selected by the British Olympic Association to represent Team GB at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney later this month.
Twenty-year-old Shona, of Dry Doddington, is one of 120 athletes selected for the festival. The GB hockey team is drawn against China, USA and the home nation, Australia.
The AYOF will see approximately 1,700 athletes, aged 13-20, from 30 nations competing across 17 Olympic sports in many of the venues used to host the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Team GB will compete in 11 Olympic sports: hockey, badminton, basketball, diving, golf, gymnastics, rowing, shooting, triathlon, weightlifting and wrestling.
Midfielder Shona is currently playing in her third season for MOP hockey club in Holland in the Dutch Premier Division. Her aim is to play for the GB senior team at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
