MARTIAL ARTS: Kallum earns first black belt

KING’S School martial artist Kallum Mitchell climbed another rung on the Tae Kwon-Do ladder by earning his first degree black belt.

Twelve-year-old Kallum took part in an intense series of tests before a panel of eighth dan black belt masters at the Tae Kwon-Do Academy in Bristol.

He was tested on a number of disciplines including fighting skills, self-defence strategies, pattern drills, and finally a test on his knowledge of the martial art.

l Grantham and Corby Glen self-defence clubs held their fifth annual Lincolnshire Area Tae Kwon-Do Championships at The Meres leisure centre last Saturday.

Both clubs won a haul of trophies to finish in sixth place out of 28 clubs.

The event consisted of team and individual events, with the age range of competitors ranging from five years to 64. The finale was the destruction test for senior black belts.
