Barnstone saloon car racer Garrie Whittaker was in action on the international circuit at Silverstone over the weekend.
The current BMW Kumho Tyres champion took a break from the single make series to contest the Classic Thundersaloon Car Championship. Garrie drove his regular BMW E36 M3 car with the addition of slick tyres, which made for some very fast paced racing.
A qualifying session on Saturday morning on a drying track after very heavy rain had fallen saw him post his fastest time of 1min 21.792sec for the 1.8-mile circuit, which gave him an average speed of 81.46mph and was good enough for third position on the 20-car grid.
His first race was shown live on Motors TV and featured a rolling start to the race but as they went into the first tight right hand corner, there was contact between Garrie and Dale Gent.
Garrie found himself at the back of the field following the incident but, with some good lap times, soon made up ground and as the race ended after 13 laps, he finished in seventh overall and first in his class.
On Sunday afternoon, Garrie took to the track again for his second race which featured a normal standing start. He got off the line well and this time all the cars made it safely around the first corner.
Garrie went on to post his fastest lap time of the weekend, in 1:12.664 for an average speed of 90.18mph, to finish fourth overall and once again first in class.
