Barnstone-based saloon car racer Garrie Whittaker claimed the Kumho Tyres BMW Championship title in Wales at the weekend.
Garrie reclaimed the crown he last won two years ago with a season total of 15 race victories – including all of the three final rounds at Welsh circuit, Pembrey.
He posted the fastest time of the 26 cars in Saturday’s 20-minute qualifying session to put his BMW E36 M3 on pole position for race one in which he got off to a great start to take an early lead. The race was stopped for the removal of a car in a dangerous position and from the restart Garrie found himself down to second place.
Headed by defending champion Colin Wells, Garrie made his move after a few laps and went on to take the chequered flag.
He made another blistering start in the second race on Sunday morning and drove on to triumph by more than 10 seconds.
A perfect race weekend saw Garrie nose his BMW in front on the first corner in race three, before going on to register a third victory and claim the championship trophy and laurels.
The championship is destined to have a different format next season, before which Garrie has all winter to prepare his BMW for a defence of his title.
