Grantham’s Ford saloon car racer Olly Allen has got his eye on another Classic Touring Car Championship title.

A car mechanic by trade, Olly heads into the final two rounds of the in Spa Francorchamps at the beginning of next month with a healthy lead.

Olly was second in the championship going into the last round at Brands Hatch last weekend, when he boosted his points tally with two race victories.

But it was a different story for Olly at Cadwell Park when he suffered a nightmare of a weekend.

Finding an electrical fault at the last minute in his Ford Fiesta, Olly was forced to rush down to Basildon to borrow a replacement car and take it straight to Cadwell where its mechanicals proved short lived.

Olly said: “It was a right nightmare of an engine. Two laps and the engine blew. It went bang, big style.”

Olly replaced the engine with an old 1600cc one of his own that he had to fetch from his garage in Grantham.

He completed the engine swap just minutes before the second race.

Despite competing in the 2-litre class with a 1600cc engine, Olly still managed to pick up a few points.

Looking to Spa, Olly’s hopes are high as he is just four points behind the championship leader who is unable to contest the final meeting.
