GRANTHAM saloon car racer Richard Hockley has won the Honda Civic Cup Championship for a second year.

Richard had his rebuilt engine installed for the final round of the series at Snetterton last weekend. The two days consisted of qualifying plus two races on the 300 Circuit and two on the 200 Circuit, both of which he had experience of racing on before.

He qualified in third on Saturday and finished runner-up in race one before winning the second race of the day with ease, taking the chequered flag with an advantage of almost 10 seconds over his nearest rival.

Richard drove in second on the grid in Sunday qualification. He found his Civic not to be as responsive as the previous day but nonetheless managed to finish the first race in third position.

The final race of the weekend was a full wet race with heavy rain falling. Despite a scary 110mph aquaplaning experience, Richard steered his Civic to second place to seal the championship in style.

Richard expressed his thanks to his sponsors for the season, Grantham Honda and Hypro Sport.
