Ropsley Primary School emerged victorious in the Grantham Netball Tournament held at the Priory Ruskin Academy last Thursday.
The event, featuring 19 other Grantham schools, saw Ropsley go unbeaten for seven matches go claim the glory.
In the first round, they beat Long Bennington 2-0 followed by a resounding 5-0 win against Allington and Sedgebrook. They drew against Huntingtower and then defeated Isaac Newton 4-0.
Round two brought the possibility of a small school really having a chance to win and the squad approached the next game with real gusto. And they beat Corby Glen 4-1.
Suddenly, they realised they were playing for first place. Belmont forced them into a 2-2 draw and the tournament became very tense indeed for Ropsley’s young players.
Their final game was against Marston Thorold and they secured a fantastic 4-0 win, which meant an overall first place for the gutsy team.
The Ropsley squad comprised Josh Hankins, Tom Konarski, Jessica Trotter, Kimberley Gomersall, Annabel Roberts, Ellie Gardner and Kitty Henderson.
Ropsley headteacher Ann Cook was delighted by the victory, saying: “I am very proud of the pupils at Ropsley who play with real enthusiasm and commitment.”
The school also wanted to thank Mrs Gardner and Mrs Henderson for their support with the netball team.
