Four members of Grantham Swimming Club represented Lincolnshire at the inaugural Junior Inter-County Gala at Biggleswade last Saturday.

The Grantham quartet were among 35 swimmers who earned their Lincs county colours in the event hosted by Bedfordshire ASA.

Molly Colbert swam the 100m freestyle and finished fourth, recording a small personal best and bettering her own club record.

William Hawkes was third in 100m freestyle and second in 100m breaststroke. He set new club records for a 12-year-old boy in both races.

There were outstanding performances from the 12-year-old freestyle team, which included William taking first place in the event. There were many more top finishes and strong performances from across the Lincs team.

Harry Fowler and Kendall Wilkins also swam well in their relays and helped the county team to finish in a highly commendable third overall.

County coaches Andy Mason and Sarah Goodale were delighted with the overall result: “Although many of the youngsters had not competed together before, they worked tirelessly in both individual and relay events.”
