Grantham Swimming Club youngsters rounded off the most successful season in club history with a clutch of medals at the British Summer and National Age Group Championships.
William Hawkes, Sophie Culpin, Hayley Milne, Molly Colbert, Thomas Lewis and Eleanor Lythgoe all had a taste of top level success, with every swimmer reaching a final at the English nationals.
Grantham’s head coach Maciej Rakowski said: “Swimmers swam some superb races at the nationals, reaching finals and winning medals.
“I felt very proud to see my swimmers at this level of competition, swimming against much bigger clubs and showing them that swimmers from Grantham are major contenders.”
More Grantham swimmers than ever before qualified for Midland and National events this year and the club out-performed every other club in Lincolnshire in the medal tables at both events.
Following on from his successful season, William Hawkes has been invited to join the 2015 England Talent Scheme which aims to aims to support and enhance the development of high quality athletes for the future, and to identify those with the potential to achieve senior podium success.
The 14-year-old from Croxton Kerrial was selected on his performance and British ranking over the past six months.
William said: “I am really pleased to be selected – September is phase one – but my goal is to progress to phase two which will be held in December.”
Coach Maciej has also been selected as one of the coaches for the England talent scheme.
Hayley Milne went straight from nationals to competing at the 2015 CPISRA World Games in Nottingham and brought home four gold medals for Team CP England.
Hayley took up swimming aged 10, despite having limited mobility on her right hand side because of cerebral palsy. The Allington teenager has also been selected to attend a training camp for England Spotlight swimmers.
And 11-year-old Freya Colbert has been chosen to attend an East Midlands regional training day at Loughborough after being spotted through her position on the national rankings.
