Grantham and District Table Tennis League has introduced a summer competition.
It is a league of 14 teams of two players, with all players’ handicaps based on their winter results.
After seven weeks, Elgre Ancaster are top of the league and undefeated as a team. Ancaster Sports are second, with Cranmer and Deltas sharing third spot.
The system makes tough matches for the top players who sometimes have to give lower opponents a seven points start.
Last week, Manthorpe’s Pete Ellis had seven points start on Elgre’s Paul Smith and won in the fifth set.
In another match, Russel Winfield did the same thing against Elgre’s Adam Ellis.
Five more match evenings remain in the league.
The victors will win £50, with the runners-up and third place pocketing £30 per pair.
