Another busy weekend for Cliffedale Chandlers, after an intense training session on Saturday, saw four of the club’s Cadet teams in National Cadet League action on Sunday in Wellingborough.
The day started with Chandlers A in Division One opening up against Rugby A, but crashing to a 4-2 loss. That was followed by a 5-1 reverse to Nottingham Sycamore and a third round 6-0 defeat to Lillington A, but then came a turn in fortunes with two 4-2 wins in rounds four and five against Great Stukeley and Lillington B respectively.
In Division Three, Chandlers B and C went head to head in the opening round. B were relegated from Division Two in the previous phase of the competition and were strong favourites, but all the matches were close and it was nip and tuck all in all nine ties, but Chandlers B ran out 8-1 victors in the end.
Chandlers B went on to record a 6-3 win over Rugby but lost 8-1 to division favourites Westfield in the final round of the day. Chandlers C also lost 8-1 to Westfield but in the third and final round of the day they themselves recorded an 8-1 victory over Rugby.
Meanwhile in Division Four, Chandlers D found it tough going but put in three battling performances. Unfortunately the finished the day with a 6-3 loss to Westfield B, a close 5-4 loss to Bedford Modern in a tie that could have gone either way, and a third round 7-2 loss to Lillington.
All the teams played well and supported each other, and all they needed was a little bit of luck, but they survive to fight another day going into day four next month.
