Cliffedale Chandlers Table Tennis Club entered a strong contingent of players in the Two Star Tournament hosted by themselves at The Meres leisure centre last Saturday.

The tournament was keenly contested with 155 individual entrants from all over the country competing across the 10 categories.

Local players Nathan Butler and Grace Potter reached the finals of their cadet (U15) category. Nathan won the Cadet boys’ final 3-0, playing some spectacular attacking shots to beat number one seed Harry Dai 11-5, 11-9, 11-7.

Grace justified were number two seeding in the Cadet girls’ by finishing as runner-up in the final. She started brightly to grind out a 2-0 lead but could not hold off a determined Charlotte Bardsley who clawed her way back into the match before eventually winning 3-2, with scores of 9-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-3 and 11-4

All Cliffedale Chandlers players acquitted themselves well and some were unfortunate to miss out on the silverware. Beth Cook was a beaten semi-finalist, and Tom Parry, Josh Kettle and Flynn Connolly were all only narrowly beaten in their respective categories.

The photos show Nathan Butler and Grace Potter receiving their trophies from Cliffedale Chandlers club secretary Matt Weavers.
