With most teams having played two thirds of their fixtures, promotion and relegation battles are already coming thick and fast in the Grantham and District League.

In Division One, Newark A have taken on the top spot and look like staying there. Chandlers A are in second place with Ancaster A and Cranmer A just behind. At the bottom, last year’s promoted teams Ancaster Sports and BT A look like going back down.

With Robert Smith only beaten once so far, Falcons are top of Division Two, with Ancaster B hard on their heels.

Ancaster C, now back to full strength after Clive Creasey and Ken Wingad went down with flu, won 10- 0 at Arbons to stay top of Division Three. DVS Crowns defeated Deltas 9-1 to make them strong challengers.

Another noteworthy win in the bottom league was Newark C’s 81-year-old Eddie Hewitt beating Chandlers’ Jim Ross.
