TENNIS: Deserved win for Grantham ladies’ second team

Captained by Jo Jones, Grantham Tennis Club ladies’ second string deserved won 10-8 in a close game at home against Retford last weekend.

Also in the team were Megan Jones, Liz Stokes, Liz Frobisher, Sue Rowland and Patrizia Patricio.

The ladies’ first team hosted Louth 1st at the weekend.

Comprising of Sarah Patton, Mel Bloodworth, Megan Jones, Sophie Fletcher, Lianne Tapson and Mell Milner, Grantham won eight matches out of nine, only losing one due to injury. With the summer season midway through, the ladies now have two victories under their belt.

The Mini Orange team played at Boston in the indoor league, beating St James’s 5-0 and Boston 2-1.

The Grantham team consisted of Leon De Rocca and Toby Cullen.

Grantham men’s first team took on Grimsby at the weekend, achieving a comfortable 8-1 win. The team pairings were Richard Surtees and Richard Cragg, Andrew Isaac and Paul White, and Richard Smart and Phil Lawton.

Christie Halton and Martha Patton played their first 12-and-under match against Boston.

Christie played well and won 6-1, 6-1. Martha had a close first set 6-4 and then lost 6-1. Paired together for exciting three set doubles, they lost on a third set match tiebreak.

Joe Patton, Lewis Picker, Adam Tapson and Elliot Smith-Rassmussen were too strong for Boston team at the weekend, winning all singles and doubles matches.
