TENNIS: Grantham club’s week begins with first-team victory

Grantham Tennis Club’s week began with its first indoor team facing Lady Bay 2nd.

The team, which comprised Richard Cragg, James Drennan, Lianne Tapson and Charlotte Palul, enjoyed a comfortable third win of the season.

On Saturday, the mixed doubles second winter team faced Nottingham Castle A in good spirits. They also competed well and gained a very close victory. The team were Lorraine Walton, Johnny Ng, Katy Dines, Paul Kennedy, Sheena Gordine and Martin Garrett.

The men’s first winter team won their first match of the season against Wollaton. The team enjoyed the victory with James Drennan, Darren Taxis, Richard Cragg, Andrew Isaac, John Halton and Ed Milner.

The veteran first team hosted Grimsby. Barry Priestly, Neil Robertson, Robert Isaac and Karel Meuwissen managing to draw 4-4 against a Grimsby team who have won all their previous matches this season.

The mixed winter third team visited Mansfield and faced their B team. Mark Ottey, Liz Isles, Mike Roys, Katy Dines, Mark Gray and Jo Jones finished with a 62-40 loss.

The Boston mini match against Boston A took place on Saturday and featured all of Grantham’s Red, Orange and Green teams against a strong side. In the Red match (eight-and-under), Grantham managed an impressive victory with the team of Jake Cullen, Luke Cullen, Aaron Fleckney and Eve Kimberley. The Orange team (nine-and-under) of Nitesh Shyam and Jake Gibbons lost 3-1 overall, and the Green team of Madison Cook and Nitesh Shyam were also defeated 4-0.
