TENNIS: Grantham club teens pull off comfortable win

Grantham Tennis Club under-14s played at home at the weekend, taking on a strong Tennis Buddies team.

The Grantham quartet recorded a great result, performing well to pull off a comfortable victory.

The team comprised of Aiden Oliver, Owen Shaw, Aaron Jones and Noah Briggs.

l Lincolnshire Ladies played South Wales last Saturday in Swansea, with representation from four Grantham Tennis Club members.

On this occasion, home advantage prevailed, the match being played on fast indoor carpet and with South Wales fielding a very competent team who won 3-2.

Close matches prevailed with Jane Hunter securing wins in her singles and doubles, both on third set tie-breaks.

Also playing were Lianne Tapson, Sarah Patton and Melanie Bloodworth.

l Grantham men’s veteran first team won their penultimate game in Lincolnshire Men’s Summer Seniors, and so are now guaranteed to finish at least second in the league.

In a very close match against St James 2nd, Mike Roys and Mark Farmer, and Nigel Birch and Eddy Milner, won three three set rubbers to come out on top 3-1. The final match is against the current first-placed team and will decide who claims the title.

l Grantham A Orange team snatched victory against their B team at the weekend after some very close matches.

The A team consisted of Lilia Dunn, Leon De Roca, Harry Chambers and Alex Harris. The B team were Theo Milner, Charlie Morley, Ava Holt and Harry Sanderson.
