TENNIS: Grantham ladies get weekend off to good start

Grantham Tennis Club’s weekend started well with the ladies’ third team winning against Burton Joyce

The team triumphed 78 games to 30 and comprised Jo Carstairs, Sarah Isaac, Janet Ibberson, Pam Aust, Jill Pindar and Katy Dines.

The good results continued with the ladies’ veteran team hosting Grimsby Tennis Centre. The team of Lianne Tapson, Liz Frobisher, Jackie Wilson and Mell Bloodworth enjoyed a comfortable 8-0 victory.

The ladies’ Lincolnshire Winter League had its first match contested at Grantham on Saturday. The team of Megan Jones and Liz Stokes, playing singles, and Jackie Wilson and Sue Cox as a doubles pair, faced Tealby. Despite close matches, Grantham losst overall.

Also on Saturday, the men’s second winter team played their first of two matches in two days. The team of Josh King, Toby King, Martin Garrett, Nigel Birch, Daniel Mole and Dave Todd won the match 57-51 against East Bridgford.

The men’s first team faced a tough test at West Bridgford 2nd. The team, who fought well and lost by a mere seven games, were Richard Cragg, James Drennan, Simon Cormer, Andrew Isaac, Ed Milner and Karel Meuwissen.

The men’s second winter team won their second match of the weekend. On this occasion, Daniel Mole, Nigel Birch, Martin Garrett, Mark Ottey, Adam Bramley and Colin Walton took to the court against Freisland, from Nottingham, and won 62-46. The team are now three from three this winter season.
