Grantham Tennis Club held a fun, social and competitive ladies’ tournament last Wednesday.

The occasion was arranged specifically to raise funds to enable Paul Singleton to compete in wheelchair tennis competitions around the country and to develop his tennis career.

In just 18 months, through Paul’s commitment and love of the game, he has come to play to a high standard and has competed in LTA Development tournaments, reaching the quarter-finals in the singles and finals in the doubles. Paul is now also an LTA level two qualified coach, coaching both able-bodied and disabled players.

A group of enthusiastic ladies play tennis together at the Grantham club on Wednesday mornings, and they were so inspired by Paul that they decided to hold a tournament on the four indoor courts at the club’s new Arnoldfield facility.

The 32 ladies had a very enjoyable morning playing doubles and spectating from the gallery area. A raffle was held, followed by a lovely lunch in the club cafe. An amazing £1,160 was raised during the morning which will directly benefit Paul’s competition schedule this year.

The team at Grantham Tennis Club were delighted to host the occasion, with Paul being a regular club player, always on hand to offer advise and support to others.

GTC provides great tennis and gym facilities, with four indoor courts, four artificial grass courts and five clay courts. The club and cafe is open to non-members and welcomes players of all abilities.
