Grantham Tennis Club ladies’ third team enjoyed a good win on Sunday, triumphing away at Lady Bay, 11 sets to seven.
The weather was warm and sunny, a great day to be outside playing tennis.
First pairing Liz Frobisher and Pam Aust drew 6-5 3-6 4-6 6-4 1-6 2-6, Ros Keene and Laura Dixon stormed through to win five of six sets 1-6 6-5 6-3 6-4 6-2 6-3, with third pair Wendy Bland and Holly Richardson winning four of six sets 6-2 6-5 5-6 6-2 1-6 6-4.
Grantham’s seventh team took on Nottingham Tennis Centre in Division Eight of the Notts Summer Mixed Doubles League on Saturday.
Despite very difficult conditions of rain and wind interspersed with bright sunshine, the match was completed with Grantham winning all 18 sets. The team comprised Mark Gray with Sarah Moysey, Jason Wheatley with Sarah Medcalf, and captain Chris Pye-Smith with Anne Fleming.
Grantham mixed fourth team of John Walker, Gail Browne, Mike Roys, Veronica Stephens, Jarek Mechlinski and Lis Isles took on Collingham last Thursday.
Going into the last round, it was all square but Grantham won all three rubbers to take full points with a 6-3 rubbers and 59-58 games victory
Grantham men’s seniors second team travelled to Scotter on Sunday.
Both Grantham pairs of Mike Roys and Jonathan Francis, and Jarek Mechlinski and Jim Stevenson, beat the opposition second pair, but against Grantham’s second pair the home team’s first pair just hung on in a third set tie-break to deny Grantham the win, with the match ending 2-2.
Grantham juniors Red A team played at Burton Waters and won 10-6.
Players were Toby Park, John Sheardown, Henry Robson and Elijah Killen-Smith. A special mention must go to Toby who won four out of four matches.
Orange A team played against Louth and triumphed 8-2.
Players were Joshua Mackender, Marc Blake, Ted Robson and Viraj Manocha. Viraj did exceptionally well as this was his first ever Orange match since moving from Reds at Easter. He won one of two singles and his doubles match.
On Saturday morning, the 14&U boys Aegon team hosted Louth.
Grantham fielded the team of Oli Thomas, Luke Griffin, Alex Harris and Harry Chambers. Despite their best efforts, and matches that did not reflect the scoreline, Grantham lost 12-0.
The 14&U boys have two matches left in June, which will complete their team tennis season.
