Grantham Tennis Club Ladies’ A team battled the weather on Saturday to play in the Nottingham Ladies’ Doubles League against Burton Joyce.

The team of Jeanette Turland, Pam Aust, Liz Stokes, Sally Bradley, Laura Dixon and Ros Elphick held a comfortable lead throughout, winning the match by 78-30 games. The result puts the team in mid-league position with three matches left to play.

Meanwhile, Grantham men’s team played Lady Bay and lost in a close match on the soggy astro courts.

This was the last match of the season and the team drowned their sorrows whilst watching the Wales and England Rugby Six Nations match in the pub.

A win would have guaranteed promotion – but it looks like the team will spend another season in Div Seven. Players were Jonathan Francis and Mike Roys, Stephen Bratton and David Todd, and Mike Timson and Barry Priestley. Final score was 52-56 to Lady Bay.

l Grantham Tennis Club are proud to be again hosting a County Cup event next weekend (February 24-26).

Sussex, Leicestershire, Essex and North of Scotland will contest Division 3B of the under-18 boys’ competition.

Play will be on the indoor courts so is guaranteed whatever the weather. So, why not go on down to watch what promises to be great tennis and enjoy lunch at GTC’s Great Taste Cafe.
