TENNIS: Grantham men overcome toughest challenge

Grantham Tennis Club men’s first Aegon team faced their toughest challenge yet, away at Loughborough.

After the singles the match was tied at two rubbers each. The doubles followed a similar pattern with one victory for each team. In the shoot-out, Andrew Isaac and Richard Surtees pulled off impressive victories in tie-breaks to give Grantham a narrow 7-6 win.

Also playing were Richard Cragg and Jonathan Cummins.

The ladies’ third summer team played away at Retford at the weekend and comprised Sue Cox, Sue Rowland, Wendy Bland, Holly Richardson, Yvonne Walker and Laura Dixon.

After a very close three rounds, it was the home side side that managed to come out with an 11-7 victory.

The fourths on the other hand enjoyed a great 16-2 win over West Bridgford. The team consisted of Tracy Hobson and Rachel Pulfree, Lorraine Walton and Sue Taylor, and Elaine Maplethorpe and Angie Tapson.

The thirds’ match with Burton Joyce ended in a draw after a tight match. This places Grantham second in the mixed league, just one point behind Grantham 2nd.

The team comprised of Pam Aust, Mike Roys, Jeanette Thurland, Mark Otty, Gail Brown and Paul Sheardown.

Orange B beat Deeping 12-8 at the weekend with the team of Imogen Clough, Bethany Aust, James Timms and Sam McCarthy.

Grantham A beat Burton Waters A 12-8 at the weekend and comprised Lilia Dunn, Hugo dunn, Joshua Harris and Aarnav Bajaj.

Noah Carson, Luke Griffin, Noah Briggs and Thomas Legard for Grantham U14 B team against a strong Horncastle side at the weekend.

After a great battle from both teams, the Horncastle side emerged as the victors.
