Grantham Tennis Club’s ‘Mini’ teams took on Boston B away in the Lincolnshire League at the weekend.
The Red team consisted of Oliver Anderson, Jack Street, Harry Chambers and Jacob Boneham, and proved too strong for their hosts. The Orange team of James Jackson and Elliot Fisher won the doubles but were edged out 3-2 overall.
The Green team’s Heidi-Louise Robertson and Finley Jones played very well but Boston B were more experienced and managed to win all the closely contested matches.
The men’s third team travelled to Magdala Tennis Club in the Notts Winter league. Captained by David Todd, the team of John Walker, Paul Carpenter, Dominic Newcombe, Mark Farmer and Simeon Cook were always just behind and went down 59-49 after a final deciding rubber.
The veteran ladies’ seconds played away to a strong Grimsby side. Captained by Janet Ibberson, the team of Pam Aust, Wendy Stewart, Sue Cox and Yvonne Walker cruised to a 7-1 sets victory.
The men’s veteran second string, captained by Mike Roys, hosted Louth 2nd and also eased to a 7-1 victory to take them top of the table. The experienced team comprised Paul Kennedy, Nigel Birch, John Legard and Phil Rann.
The first mixed team played at home to West Bridgford A. Captained by Lianne Tapson, the team consisted of James Drennan, Johnny Ng, Mel Milner, Paul White and Mel Bloodworth and proved far too strong for their vicitors, taking a 71-37 victory.
