Grantham Tennis Club ladies’ veteran second team achieved another win at the weekend, to finish the season unbeaten at home.

l Grantham men’s veteran second team have enjoyed an eventful first season in Lincolnshire League Division One.
They started against last year’s runners-up, Grimsby, and despite playing well, were defeated 6-2. They then lost 5-3 to Eastgate before registering a comprehensive 7-1 win over St James.
After that, there was another close 5-3 defeat 3-5 against Louth and most recently a 5-3 victory away to Boston 2nd.
Despite the two wins, Grantham we are not yet safe from relegation as other results have not been kind. It promises to be an exciting end of season as four teams of the seven in the league are at risk.

l Grantham’s mixed first team consisted of Richard Cragg and Cerys Jones, Jo Jones and James Drennan, and Liz Stokes and Richard Smart, and took on a tricky Woodthorpe side at home.

She recorded a convincing 11-1 victory in her last match with partner Richard, even though she had earlier snapped her strings and had to play with a borrowed racket.
The team have so far won two out of three matches.
