AS Grantham Tennis Club approaches the heart of the summer season, all age groups have been completing their county cups.

During the weekend, the mini Orange age group (nine and under) was held, with the Lincolnshire team including Grantham’s Madison Cook, the youngest Grantham player to be selected for the competition).

The hard work that Madison and the Lincolnshire team have done all year paid off, seeing them reach the final against Leicestershire. After the first round of singles, Lincolnshire were down 4-2. The doubles proved more successful, with both Lincs pairs winning in three sets to take the match score to 4-4 and a deciding match.

Madison Cook and Jacob Ainsworth played brilliantly to win the final match and give Lincolnshire the gold medal.

In other results over the weekend, the mixed doubles third team hosted Washingborough and with the team of Mark Ottey, Liz Hewitt, Robert Isaac, Laura Dixon, David Todd and Holly Richardson managed a well-fought victory.

The first mixed team travelled to Saxilby and also triumphed. The weekend got even better with the mixed fourth team enjoying success against Farnsfield C, 15 sets to three. The team comprised Nigel Birch, Carole Binz, Nigel Garrett, Laura Dixon, Colin Walton and Sue Rowland.

The ladies’ short format continued with Grantham’s ladies facing Sutton Bonington. The team of Jackie Thompson, Rachel Wall, Jackie Edgley, Jette Smith-Rasmussen, Liz Stokes and Sharon Yates could not emulate the club’s other results and lost 12-3.
