Grantham Tennis Club’s fourth mixed team won again on Saturday and, with a five game win streak under their belts, they remain undefeated.
They should now have secured promotion and a win in their last match at Newark will see them declared champions of the league.
They beat David Lloyd West Bridgford by 60 games to 48 at the weekend. The team was Colin Walton and Sheena Gordine, Martin Garratt and Sue Rowland, and David Todd and Lorraine Walton.
l Grantham men’s third winter team took on a strong Eastwood side at the weekend.
The team, consisting of Ben Catlin, Matt Street, captain David Todd, John Walker, Geoff Edmonds and Peter Elphick.
The Grantham side put in a battling performance but were eventually defeated 66-42.
l Grantham’s second ladies’ veteran team played some excellent tennis on a very blustery day in Tealby for their last game of the season.
Sue Cox and Liz Stokes were a strong pairing and secured draws in both their rounds.
Captain Sue Rowland and Sheena Gordine played well to triumph in both sets in their first round and won a close set tie-break in their second match to achieve a draw, which meant and overall 5-3 sets victory over the north Lincolnshire side.
The result secured the Grantham ladies’ well-deserved third place in the league.
l The Grantham mixed indoor winter seconds played against a good Mansfield side.
Despite fielding a strong side consisting of Jon Quinn, Karel Meuwissen, Jackie Wilson and junior Ella Tapson, they were unable to hurt Mansfield who walked away without dropping a match and won 37-22.
l Meanwhile, David Hall’s winter men’s fourth team played against Wollaton with players comprising Matt Street and Aaron Jones, Sim Cook and Will Kappen, and David Hall and Chris Matthews.
Despite giving the Nottingham side a run for their money, with the majority of matches ending 6-6, Grantham were narrowly defeated 56-52.
