The Bank Holiday convivial social day for the entire membership of Sudbrook Moor Golf Club was a bumper event.

The annual support of this Sudbrook Bowl trophy pairs betterball stableford has, year by year, steadily increased - and was blessed with warm and dry conditions on Sunday.

Experienced matchplay single figure pairing Phil Hall and Paul Leachman, playing their first Bowl strokeplay together, and with three quarters stroke allowance, were out in three under par gross, with six pars and three birdies and 26 stableford points.

A solid back nine of 20 points comprised five gross pars, two bogeys and two birdies.

That totalled 46 points to claim the title by a four-point margin.

In second on countback, with 42 points, were Allan Griggs and Barry Rohland with two solid nines of 21 points.

Father and son Stuart and Josh Smith - winners in 2009, 2011 and 2012 - recorded 24 on the outward half and 18 back for third.

There was a three-way countback for the next spot as Paul Williamson and Paul McCarthy (19 out, 22 back), Steve Davis and 14-year-old Joseph Ablewhite (back nine of 20) and Graham Ritchie and Fiona Hutton (back nine was 19) all finished on 41 points.

A popular twos sweep which was shared by four competitors.

Ian Mason recorded a birdie on hole number 12 and an eagle two on the 13th.

Phil Hall holed his shot off the fringe on hole number seven, Judith Hutton birdied the third, Fiona Hutton the seventh and Kevin Turner the 12th.

Amanda Roberts won the Tuesday Bank Holiday Spin-Up Stableford with 38 points, playing to her handicap of 16.

Sue Chambers’ was second on 37 and Maureen Bradford and Jeannie Priest both finished on 36.
